William Leroy Ness passed to Eternity on Friday, April 19, 2024, at Hanover Hall, Hanover, Pennsylvania.
Leroy was born January 6, 1934, the first child of Reuben and Ruth (Kuhns) Ness at 2288 Grandview Road, Hanover. He died at age 90 years, 3 months, 13 days.
He developed epilepsy at age 10 which disrupted his schooling. At age 13 it was advised that he discontinue attendance and he began assisting his father at York Road Cemetery. For SEVENTY years he faithfully cared for that cemetery plus Bair’s Mennonite Graveyard, Hostetter Mennonite Cemetery, Littlestown and Zimmerman Mennonite Graveyard at Millers, Maryland.
For many years he was janitor for the Bair’s Mennonite Church and Shekinah Christian School at the same location. He was a member of the Hostetter Mennonite Church, enjoyed recording special services at churches and maintained the family genealogy records for the Kuhns family, mostly in Franklin County, Pennsylvania.
Leroy is survived by brothers Daniel and wife Mary Ellen (Umble), Lititz PA; Charles and wife Janet (Nauman), Skippack PA; Marlin and wife Shirley (Lucero), Greeley CO, sister-in-law Nancy (Musselman) Ness, New Oxford PA, 13 nephews and 3 nieces. He was preceded in death by sister Mabel wife of Louis Baral, Heidlersburg PA; Reuben Ness, New Oxford PA; Adam, Phoenix AZ and a niece.
Services will be held at Bair’s Mennonite Church, 6925 York Road, Hanover; Saturday, April 27, 2024, viewing at 9:30am, service at 11am. All are welcome.
The family appreciates the friendship shared with Leroy during his life, including several years at Columbia Cottage, built on the land where he was born, and recently at Hanover Hall.
